2014/68/ EU - PRESSURE EQUIPMENT DIRECTIVE /RED/
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/BG/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32014L0068&from=EN

The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) is a directive of the European Union, applicable to the design, production and conformity assessment of pressure equipment (СнН) and functional groups of pressure equipment, with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0,5 bar.

The main purpose of PED is to ensure, that pressure equipment, used in the EEA is safe.

The necessary degree of safety of the PPE is achieved by assessing their compliance with the essential requirements, defined in /PED/ NSIOSNN. The essential requirements are intended to ensure and guarantee a high level of protection.

PED requires the level of risk of CHD to be assessed and classified into one of five categories.

  • DIP (Good engineering practice)
  • Category I
  • Category II
  • Category III
  • Category IV

The higher the level of danger, the higher the level of quality assurance during design, production and testing of CHD.

DETERMINATION OF THE CATEGORY OF DANGER OF SSN

When the category of ChN is determined, the specific requirements for conformity assessment may be specified. Conformity assessment is quality assurance, necessary for the approval of the project, production, testing and inspection of equipment. The higher the category, the higher the degree of danger and therefore the stricter the requirements for quality assurance.. When several modules are applied, the SnH manufacturer can choose the module(s)., which are best suited to the specific essential requirements.

TYPES OF PRESSURE FACILITIES

According to the PED / NSIOSNN there is 6 type of pressure equipment:

1. Unheated pressure vessels;
2. Heated by flame or otherwise pressure equipment, threatened by overheating (steam or hot water boilers with a temperature above 110 °C);
3. Pipelines;
4. Safety devices;
5. Pressure devices;
6. Functional groups.

FLUID GROUP

Fluids are divided into the following two groups:1. Group 1 – includes substances or mixtures, classified as dangerous in accordance with the following hazard classes and categories, referred to in part 2 and part 3 of Annex I to the Regulation (EO) № 1272/2008:

b)flammable gases, categories 1 and 2;
v)oxidizing gases, category 1;
r)flammable liquids, categories 1 and 2;
d)flammable liquids, category 3, whose maximum permissible temperature is above the flash point;
is)flammable solids, categories 1 and 2;
g)self-activating substances and mixtures, types A - F; with)pyrophoric liquids, category 1;

and)pyrophoric solids, category 1;
To)substances and mixtures, which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases, categories 1, 2 and3;
l)oxidizing liquids, categories 1, 2 and 3;
m)oxidizing solids, categories 1, 2 and 3;
