WORKING WITH SOURCES OF IONIZING RADIATION /IL/
The building, in which the central office of KONTROLTEST OOD is located, c address gr. Sofia, it's a. "Asen Yordanov" №12, was designed and built in the period 1958 r. – 1962 r. Over the years, it housed the Central Laboratory for Nuclear Defect Inspection /CLYAD/.
KONTROLTEST Ltd. is a continuation of the specific activity of the laboratory – charging and discharging gamma-defectoscopes. The activity takes place in a special chamber (HOT CAMERA) and is licensed series P Registration no 0006 from the Agency for Nuclear Regulation for Work with Sources of Ionizing Radiation /IIL/. THE HOT CAMERA has special radiation protection, agreed with the competent authorities and regularly controlled by the relevant organizations authorized for this purpose.
The employees, operators of the Camera must be equipped with a personal dosimeter.
ACTIVITIES, MADE IN THE HOT CHAMBER
The hot chamber is a unique facility, which creates conditions for safe operation under certain conditions, according to legal requirements, operating in the Republic of Bulgaria. It is intended for:
- Loading gamma-defectoscopes;
- Dilution of gamma-defectoscopes;
- Opening the shipping container;
- Place a source in the operational container;
- Visual inspection of the source - confirmation or determination of the manufacturer's identification number and accompanying documents;
- Extraction of the source and positioning in the gamma-ray defectoscope;
- Radiation control of the released shipping container.
DATA ON RADIOACTIVE SOURCES
The hot camera is intended for manipulations with sources of ionizing radiation (IEL) with maximum source activity 17.76 TBq (480 Ci).

The chamber uses sealed radioactive sources, found in standard stainless steel metal liners, conforming to ISO requirements 2918, ISO 2855 and ISO 9978.
Highly active IOLs are used to recharge gamma-defectoscopes (Iridium Ir-192, Selenium Se-75).
- Iridium 192 (And-192) is a metal with a cylindrical shape. The maximum activity of sources for gamma-ray detectors depends on the model and the maximum activity, specified by the manufacturer. She gets to 4,44 TBq (120Ci). The half-life of Ir-192 is approx 73.8 days.
Selenium 75 (Se-75) is a metal ceramic with a cylindrical shape. The maximum activity of sources for gamma-ray detectors depends on the model and the maximum activity, specified by the manufacturer. She is also up 4,44 TBq (120Ci). The half-life of Se-75 is approx 119.8 days.
